Our methodology
Editorial Review Policy
How we assess operators, what each criterion covers, and what our scores do and do not represent.
Purpose of this policy
This page explains how BritJackpot Desk approaches the comparison and assessment of UK-facing casino brands. Transparency about methodology is important to us, and we want visitors to understand exactly how our scores and notes are formed before using them to inform any decision.
Eligibility criteria
Before a casino brand is considered for inclusion on this site, it must meet the following minimum conditions:
- Hold a current, active licence issued by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC).
- Operate a site that is clearly aimed at UK players or that has a dedicated UK version.
- Have sufficient operating history to assess — we do not review operators that have only recently launched without any meaningful track record.
Operators that do not meet these conditions are not included, regardless of commercial interest.
Assessment criteria
We assess each included operator across six main categories. Each category contributes to the overall editorial score, which is expressed as a number out of 10.
1. Licence and regulation
We confirm that the operator holds a current UKGC licence and check for any notable regulatory history. This is a binary gate — operators without UKGC licensing are not included. Within the scoring, we note any relevant regulatory findings where they are publicly available.
2. Terms clarity
We read the operator's main terms and conditions, bonus terms, and promotional conditions. We assess how clearly key points are explained — including wagering requirements, eligible games, time limits, maximum bet restrictions, and withdrawal caps. Operators that present their terms clearly and concisely score more highly in this category than those that use opaque language or bury important conditions.
3. Game variety
We note the breadth of the game library, including the number and variety of software providers, the presence of live dealer games, and whether the selection extends beyond basic slots. We do not verify exact game counts as these change frequently.
4. Mobile experience
We access the site on mobile devices and assess ease of navigation, loading performance, and whether key account functions — deposit, withdrawal, account settings, game launch — are accessible without significant friction.
5. Payment options
We note the variety of deposit and withdrawal options available, including cards, e-wallets, and bank transfers. We note any significant restrictions on withdrawal methods or processing times where they are clearly stated.
6. Responsible gambling tools
We assess how prominently responsible gambling tools are presented — including deposit limits, loss limits, self-exclusion, and links to support organisations. Operators that make these tools easy to find and use score more highly in this category.
Scoring
Scores are produced by weighting each category assessment and combining them into an overall figure out of 10. The exact weighting is not published to prevent operators from optimising for the scoring system rather than improving their actual product.
Scores are our editorial view, not an official or regulatory rating. They represent our assessment at the time of review. We update scores when we revisit operators, but cannot guarantee that scores always reflect the most current state of a product. Operators change their terms, games, and features regularly.
What scores do not mean
- A high score does not mean we recommend the operator without reservation.
- A score is not an endorsement of any specific offer or promotion.
- Scores are not official UKGC ratings or regulatory assessments.
- A score does not mean the operator is always preferable to an unscored or lower-scoring competitor for every individual player.
- Scores are not a guarantee of payout speed, account approval, or any outcome.
Editorial independence
Casino operators do not pay to appear on this site, to improve their score, or to alter review text. Commercial affiliate arrangements exist between this site and some listed operators, but these are disclosed separately on the Affiliate Disclosure page and do not influence scoring.
If we receive a factual correction from an operator about information on this site, we will review it. If accurate, we update the content. Operators do not have editorial control over review text.
Review updates
We aim to review each included operator at intervals, but we do not publish specific review dates for all entries. If you believe information about a specific operator is materially out of date or inaccurate, you can contact us via the Contact page.
